About This Site
Purpose and Goals
I started creating this site several years ago with only personal goals in mind - I wanted to have fun, I wanted to express how much I liked the Starlights and to share that feeling with others, and I wanted to see if I could express that feeling clearly in writing. Since then, the size and scope of this site has grown tremendously. Today, I continue to expand and update this site with several more focused goals in mind, including the following:
I want this website to serve as a source of information, both for Sailor Moon fans who are familiar with the Stars series, and those who aren't. On this website you can find information about the characters of the Starlights and the planet of Kinmoku, as well as practical "real-world" information like where to find Stars fansubs and CD soundtracks and the like. I've also tried to include as much information as I can about Seiya's character in particular, and about his relationship to Usagi. I do this with the goal of dispelling common misconceptions that I usually encounter among fans who haven't seen the Stars series, but already have formed pre-conceived notions of who Seiya is and how "awful" he is for trying to break up Usagi and Mamoru. It still saddens me to see that such an attitude is still so widespread among fans.
I want this website to serve as an open forum for Starlights fans. For that reason, I accept any and all Starlights fanfiction and fanart that's sent my way, because I think it's important for Starlights fans to have a space where they can express themselves through writing and artwork (and I hope that this website can provide such a space!). I also give visitors the opportunity to post guest commentary on any of my written articles, so that they may express their own opinions in an equally public space.
I want this website to serve as a comprehensive resource for Starlights fans. And in this sense, I use the word "resource" as pertaining to images, music, video clips, and other downloadable goodies (within reasonable semi-legal limits - hence, no MP3s). This is why I've created a large gallery and multimedia section, so that Starlights fans can find lots of Starlights goodies gathered all in one place, and can download to their hearts' content. ^^
Those are the three most important goals that I try to keep in mind as I continue to work on this site. I hope that this website fulfills the expectations of Starlights fans so far, and that it will continue to do so in the future.
Site History
Starlight Pops first opened on May 28th, 2000. It was hosted for free on Angelfire. At that time, Angelfire offered 50 MB of space, and truly unlimited bandwidth, for each free account. (The heydey of truly awesome free website hosting has certainly passed by now, hasn't it?) Eventually the site grew to take up four seperate accounts. I figured by then that I had outgrown free hosting, and that it was time to make the leap to paid hosting.
The domain Kinmoku.net was purchased in August 2001, and pointed to the first of several paid accounts for this website. ^^;; After a few rough experiences with bad hosts and bandwidth problems, Kinmoku.net finally moved to the incredibly awesome hosting company that is CWIHosting.
This current layout is the fifth layout that Starlight Pops has worn. Previous layouts can be seen at my personal layouts archive, Code Graffiti.
