Songs for Yaten Kou
What You See (Is What You Get)
Britney Spears | I'm ashamed to take credit for this. | Lyrics
I think that this song describes Yaten very well. Yaten rarely hides her true opinions, and doesn't bother to sugar-coat her thoughts, even in the most mundane conversations. Yaten would never settle for anybody who didn't accept her for who she really was. And I especially love the lines "Believe me, you'll be looking for trouble / If you hurt me, I can promise you."
Bitch
Meredith Brooks | submitted by me, Kotetsu | Lyrics
The message is the same as the one that Britney Spears conveys, but this time a *real* woman is singing the lyrics. And this song is far more poetic than Britney could ever hope to be.
Don't Say You Love Me
M2M | submitted by Crystal Jiang | Lyrics
"Yaten doesn't like it when people throw the
word love around carelessly without really knowing the person they say they
love."
Bridge Over Troubled Waters
Simon and Garfunkle | submitted by Sarah-chan | Lyrics
"I heard the lyrics, "Sail on Silver girl, sail all night. You're time has has come to shine..." Something in my head just snapped! . . . That was perfect for Yaten."
Celebrity
N'Sync | submitted by Koneko-chan | Lyrics
"It talks about being a celeb and girls only wanting you because of it. And I know Yaten JUST HATES IT! this song rants on and on about a girl using the guy only because he is a celebrity."
Superman
Five for Fighting | submitted by Animesailormars | Lyrics
"The lyrics are just perfect for her."
Tokyo Girl
Ace of Base | submitted by Aika Bunny | Lyrics
"It's just like Yaten (IMO) to be mysterious, like expensive things (Ooooh! Shiny ^^), and be mysterious."
Magic's in the Makeup
No Doubt | submitted by Aika Bunny | Lyrics
"Well, Yaten isn't the most easy to read person in the world, is she? She has quite a few layers to herself to keep the real world out. And the chameleon reference, I couldn't resist!"
Paid My Dues
Anastacia | submitted by SuperSailorMoon | Lyrics
"Well, firstly, Anstacia is a real power-women. She is really
cool, because she shows herself as she is. OK, Yaten doesnīt quite, but her
attitude is: 'I am what and how I am, and if somebody has got a problem with
it, itīs their problem!' And thatīs really quite Yaten-like, isnīt it?"
Reflection
Christina Aquilera (from the Mulan soundtrack) | submitted by SuperSailorMoon | Lyrics
"I'll just give you a few lines, youīll soon know why I chose this one:
'Look at me / you may think you know / who I really am / but youīll never know me'
We somehow know this one, donīt we?
'Now I see / if I wear a mask / I can fool the world'
Mulan also has to go in diguise under a heap of men (ok, an army), and she
only does it to save the live of her beloved father, although she does not
like it. Yaten is the one who hates beeing a man most of all, I think.
'When will my reflecton show / who I am inside?'
Full of doubts, just like Yaten."
Then There's You
The Wilkinsons | submitted by Sojo | Lyrics
"It just screams Yaten and Minako, I'm sure you'll agree. Ever since the first time I heard it, I could just imagine Yaten singing it to Minako."
Personal Space Invader
Sugar Ray | submitted by Mari | Lyrics
"Anyways, yeah, this reminds me of Yaten =D 'Sometimes, I just want to be left alone / Move your big head / It's my way go
and get your own.' Hehe...maybe 'big head' can refer to Taiki."
My Life
Dido | submitted by Moon Venus-chan | Lyrics
"I don't really know, it just fits!! This song is really short by the way."
Go Slow Girl
Stella One Eleven | submitted by Senshi of the Stars | Lyrics
"It makes me think of Yaten when she's having the
insecurities of not being able to find Kakyuu. When she's losing hope. The
other two comfort her, or it could be where Minako tells her that she shines
brightly. You can see in the two verses, about a boy and a girl. To take it
easy, and not give up (or something like that). 'Don't you worry now... you'll get through somehow-' We'll get through this, don't worry, we'll find her. That's what I think it
is saying. 'Don't you take it on. No one can be that strong.' We're here beside you. Taiki and Seiya telling him/her to not give up. This
is why I think it reminds me of Yaten."
Mr. Vain
Culture Beat | submitted by Ookami Gekkani | Lyrics
"This reminds me of Yaten to a tee. Why? He always acted so stuck up, like he was better than everyone else."
Overprotected
Britney Spears | submitted by Neka-chan | Lyrics
"This song has a lot to do with Yaten because he seems to be bothered by people suffocating him."
Unwanted
Avril Lavigne | submitted by Dusty | Lyrics
"This song reminds me a lot of Yaten's coldness towards various schoolgirls, and of course Usagi."
Shooting Stars
Ozma | submitted by Dusty | Lyrics
"Wow! Just listen to this. I heard this song and couldn't help but think of the Starlights!"
You Don't Own Me
Lesley Gore | submitted by Neka-chan | Lyrics
"Yaten wouldn't ever let someone control him/her or use him/her just as a pretty object. I could just picture him/her singing this with that cute little voice."
Complicated
Avril Lavigne | submitted by Bubbles | Lyrics
"This song is a reminder of Yaten in my opinion because of the reality
that he/she is sick of being someone he/she isn't, and he/she attempts to have
Seiya and Taiki realize this. Everything seems so extraordinarily complicated
to him/her. He/she has the desire for things to return to the way they were."
Cave
Muse | submitted by Yaten Light | Lyrics
"The 'Leave me alone/I'll do it myself/It's got nothing to do with you/And there's still nothing you can do' just SCREAMS Kou Yaten dontcha think?"
The Sound of Silence
Simon and Garfunkle | submitted by Rainbow | Lyrics
Rainbow argues that this song fits Yaten better than it fits Taiki: "More than Taiki, though, Yaten seems to REALLY view the Earth
people as fools. It was Yaten, not Taiki, who said 'I can't believe the
people of this planet. Not one of them,' in episode 178. While Taiki
does seem to find some things that the Earthlings do, like poetry (Blake
is an Earth poet, not one from Kinmoku!), Yaten doesn't have anything
that interests her about Earth. She seems even MORE isolated, and even
more moody (did Usagi ever make YATEN laugh? No...). She might be even
more depressed than Taiki about the situation they are in, since she
doesn't find anything fun to do on Earth, while Taiki finds enjoyment in
literature."
Bliss
Muse | submitted by Serpent | Lyrics
"It really reminds me of how Yaten is so troubled, and just wants to get away from everything and how she envies Minako."
Shining Collection
Sakuma Ryuuichi (Anime: Gravitation OAV) | submitted by Alicia | Lyrics (bilingual)
"Reminds me of: Generally the Three Lights but mostly Yaten... *shrug* Must
be because of a strange resemblance to Eiri Yuuki (in terms of attitude). Makes me think as if Yaten wrote the song herself, with Kakyuu in mind."
Bidi Bidi Bom Bom
Selena | submitted by Silver Moon | Lyrics (bilingual)
"Sounds likes a Minako & Yaten song type. But I could be wrong. You
decide."
Politically Correct
Sr-71 | submitted by Abigail | Lyrics
" 'Well I don't mean to piss you off/with things I might say/but
when I try to shut my mouth/they come out anyway' - okay, so Yaten's
not the most tactful of people, right? This song just screamed 'Yaten'
to me, since she doesn't really give a crap whether what she says
is 'politically correct' or not. And the part that says 'there's
nothing I believe in more/than my own insignificance/so why does
everybody think/my words can make a difference' sort of goes along with
the depression and frustration she was going through while on Earth."
Fields of Innocence
Evanesnce | submitted by Michi | Lyrics (Offsite Link)
"Yaten easily seems the most
'real' of the three. Like she's seen too much. These lyrics really can speculate on
what Yaten feels and her time on Earth. All she really wants is to go home and be
with her Princess and friends. But, because of Galaxia, she can't."
