The stars twinkled in crystalline beauty in their velvet sea of blackness as the Moon smiled down upon the sleeping Earth. A light breeze swayed the moon-silvered leaves of the trees and the lush grasses of the park below.

Three figures lay in the bed of green staring at the stars. Battle weary and alone they were lost in their own grim thoughts. In that darkness they could not hope to see the points of dancing light.

"What if we never find her? The hope of the existence of thousands rests upon us. I could not bare the thought of failing her and our people. The pain of death would not repent for the pain of failure." Violet eyes closed themselves against the night, shuttering at the pain that stabbed her heart.

"We will find her, Maker." A sigh was released into the night air. "We must." Eyes as deep as the night stared into the reflective dark blue.

"She is alone on this strange planet. Perhaps she is scared? Perhaps she is hurt? It pains me to think of all that she may suffer. If she cannot be found, I do not know what I am capable of inflicting."

Three hearts beat in unison, the same emotion soaring high within. Despite the wounds administered by battle their thoughts lay beyond the physical realm of pain. Three minds called out desperately to that one special person hoping that soon she would answer. They called out until sleep dimmed their thoughts and the voices faded until they were no more than hoarse whispers.

Her world of silence deteriorated into a world of confusion. Two feminine voices blended into a steadfast stream of sound combined with the resonance of argument. It was unmistakable even through the unknown language. The constant noise made the pounding that came with awareness worsen.

Like butterfly wings her eyes fluttered open filling them with bright sunlight. Two shapes merged through the drugged daze both in heated conversation, though the voices never rose above a respectful whisper.

Recognition warmed her more then the white star upon seeing the face of her mother. Slightly a smile touched her thirsty lips cracking them painfully. Soon a frown reached them as her mother and the older woman continued to dispute back and forth.

Silently she watched the agitation grow until a nurse walked into the sanitary white room causing the argument to stop immediately. In a breeze of cool professionalism she checked up on her confused patient. Bewilderment jumbled around her as the nurse spoke to her rapidly, never pausing long enough to receive an answer. The nurse left after briefly speaking to her mother.

After that all attention was turned to her as her mother moved to take her hand. The mysterious woman stared at her as though she were some sort of monster, keeping her distance at the far side of the room. Distrust lay in her eyes as she stared at the girl.

Her mother, on the other hand, spoke to her softly with tears glittering in her eyes. A note of apology lingered in her lilting voice as she looked deep within her daughter's eyes. It was with a heavy heart and a soul deep sob that she pulled away leaving the girl in confusion.

It was then that her mother left her, holding her hand to her mouth to rein in the lamentation. Her own eyes burned with droplets of sorrow as she looked to the other woman. Silent pleading was all that she could show to her as she was greeted by frigidness. An icy chill skittered down her spine at the coldness.

Silently they stared at one another for what seemed to be infinity. Warm crimson met wizened brown in an eternal confrontation. Promptly, however, the contact was broken with the disgusted shake of the woman's head. Without another glance the woman left the room shutting the door with a resounding thump of doom.

Even as the tears fell hotly down her cheeks she knew that there would be no return of her parents. Deep within her heart she knew then that she was truly alone. Self-loathing filled every crevice as time ticked by, rotting at every hope of forgiveness for whatever sin she had committed. No one was going to return to hold her hand as the burden of her pain left her in the wake of agony.

Her eyes drooped in a medicated exhaustion as her mind slowly slipped into the swirling, colored vortex of sleep. Softly the waves of the subconscious rippled over her in rainbow hues floating her towards the horizon of dreams.

In sweet delicateness chanting whispered like a scented, sun-kissed breeze caressing her in it's primitive beauty. The single calm voice twisted around her quietly in the melodic, ancient tongue. It was in that moment that she knew the poetry to be her own yet spoken from the distance.

Tenderly another voice joined in with the first, a honeyed alto mating with the sweet soprano. Together they danced together in the whispers of ecstasy curling within each other like a lover's embrace. Euphonious longing tinted the diapason sending a shiver of the same coursing heatedly through her veins.

Undeniable yearning caused her to reach out through the sparkling flecks of light in the hopes of holding onto that voice, in union with her own, for the rest of eternity. A trembling breath fluttered among the shimmering, multicolored, forever changing droplets.

To hear and yet not to such was the most exquisitely sweet torture that a prisoner of the heart had ever had the pleasure of enduring. The tears of melancholy soon transformed into fever-pitch tears of frustration as she was teased with the caress of that single voice.

Adding fuel to the flame of the longing to end the torment of her loneliness two other voices slowly started in on the chant. Lilting softly in harmony both lower than her own but each different from the next. One was a deep alto intertwining gracefully with its higher partner. All soon spiraled and twisted into a single entity. A beautiful chorus of silvery that drove deep into the most hidden part of her heart.

Faster and faster the chant increased so that it metamorphosed into a blur of syllables and consonants. Faster the words wrapped around her sending to dizzying heights within the rhythm.

A deep-rooted sense of freedom filled her heart as she floated among the lights and voices. That freedom gave her wings to fly away from the pain of her body and mind. Peacefulness at last became her home in that land of dreams.

Then out of the light came a hand made up of shadow, a sharp contrast to what lay around her. Like a snake the hand struck grabbing at her throat to choke the life out of her. Fruitlessly she struggled against her shadowed foe as the chant changed to something that made her blood grow cold. The beautiful, ancient tongue turned into cruel whispers of indictment. Harshness of the voices became maddening in the intensity.

Tears of redemption trailed down her face, but were unheeded by the darkness. Like crystal the droplets fell through the swiftly darkening void sending at trail of light at its descent. As a response the hand grew more rigid around her throat squeezing away all breath. Mocking laughter rang in her ears as she slipped into the black void of death.

With a muffled gasp eyes opened expansively to be greeted by the still brightly burning sun. The warmth failed to penetrate the cold brought by the nightmare. Shivers shook her as sobs racked her small frame, the tears flowing freely to cascade the starch white pillow with warm saltiness.

"Princess." An unintended moan escaped from the lips of the sensitive solider. A single black leather encased hand reached to catch the teardrops that fell unintentionally from verdant eyes.

"Do you feel something, Healer?" The azure eyes of her partner looked her way.

"A distant sadness fills me with its poisonous sting. Hopelessness lies imprinted somewhere within the light of this tiny blue planet. Amidst the fragrant flowers of this teasingly flourishing land a single perfume binds me to this place. Where she is, I do not know, nevertheless I feel her with every filament of my being. It is that which I cling to."

Eyes of sapphire, emerald, and amethyst sealed against the alien star. As one the three warriors inhaled the breeze searching for the single scent that would lead them at last to their beloved.

"Weakly I feel the gentle light of the star that belongs only to her. Perchance the time has come to send our song out into this newborn world. As much as it pains me, mayhap we must sloth off the lives that we have known before and become one with the citizenry of this sphere." A troubled hand ran through navy strands.

"What of the darkness that stalks us in its villainous rage? Must we forget that it is they that have brought us to this desolate state? They will hound us farther if they were to hear the song beyond the stars. And what of she? What if she never hears nor understands the message that we sing for her? What shall become of us then? She is alone grieving for all that has been lost perhaps never knowing what has become of us. Undoubtedly, something must be done to bring her back to us safely, however it must be done so that nothing may drift her farther from our reach then even we may follow. That is a risk that I am not willing to take."

"Maker, that is why we must find her as swiftly as possible. Fighter is right in this instance. We must call out to our Lady with the passion that only can be given by the light of the stars. The message should be created for her alone, yet spread so that all ears may have the chance to hear."

Frustration whispered in an outcast breath. "It is not to say that this plan has not merit, but that will not deter the plague that festers in the wounds wrought forth in the galaxy. I would think that it would be prudent to disguise our selves in such a way that it will not bring undo attention from the adversary yet will attract one as fair as our Lady. On that same breath I suggest that perhaps it would be sagacious for us to constrict ourselves with the masquerade of the masculine sex."

A sound of disgust gurgled in the throat of the snow-headed girl. "Be at peace, Healer, and hear what I must say. If we are to allude those which would harm us and that which we care for the most it would only be reasonable for us to cloak in the shadows that is of men. Only then shall we have the independence to reach out in verse to the one that might be found. To enhance the charade we must no longer speak in the tongue of our people or act in such a way that will give the impression of falsity. We must observe the nuances of these people so that we may blend in perfectly with their kind. Above all we must act in haste. Time is of the essence in this mission. Soon will come when we shall return to our planet and begin the restoration hand in hand with our Princess."

"Agreed," was the single word that was uttered as three hands joined as one in a pact of secrets.

Despair was venom that ran though her vessel killing off slowly all will to live. It clawed like a beast at her heart rending it so that it was broken and bleeding. Death was just a breath away as it leered at her from the shadows. In her stated of disheartenment she welcomed it with open arms.

Flesh turned cold and ashen as she allowed her life to slip away into the darkness. Her heartbeat slowed to an alarming crawl flinging her into the realm of purgatory.

Just as she was thrown into the waiting arms of decease a peace came over her and she knew at last that she was free.

Three forms stopped what they were doing to immediately place their hands at their hearts in shock. Eyes opened wide as unannounced tears began to form only to trickled down to the earth below.

To them it felt as though their lifeline had suddenly been severed and they were drowning in a sea of emotion. They held onto each other to steady themselves from the tidal wave of hopelessness that threatened to carry them away. Confusion lay in their eyes as they looked to each other for support.

"What was that? A trembling undertone was emitted from paled lips as violet eyes searched the surroundings. Everything around them lay in pristine calmness as the chaos ruled in their hearts.

"No." Quivering a hand covered a star adored bust as expressive green eyes stared into space. "Something is wrong. We must hasten in our quest."
