Beautiful Stranger
A Seiya/Usagi alternate reality fanfiction
--------------------------------------------------
Sheesh! I called this Seiya/Usagi fiction, and it’s taken me ‘til chapter 6 to actually get Usagi into the story. ^^;; As it turns out, though, this story is going to be more focused on Seiya. Well, duh, it’s from Seiya’s point-of-view! Anyways, I hope you enjoy this chapter and continue to keep reading. Much thanks to all those who gave me their comments! ^_^
------------------------------------------------
I gave the girl another, longer, look. The hairstyle was kind of strange, but it was cute on her. She looked like she had odangos on her head. Alright, I would ask her out as soon as I could corner her away from her group of friends. I started to work on eating my own lunch, and soon enough, I saw her get up and snatch a piece of paper away from the blue-haired girl I had noticed earlier, who happened to be one of her two companions. The shy girl seemed to protest, but Odango-Head would have none of it. She marched away towards the school building.
“Here goes nothing,” I grinned to Taiki and Yaten and got up to follow her.
Her destination was the lockers. She didn’t seem to notice me standing in the doorway behind her as she read the names on the lockers, searching for a particular one and talking softly to herself. And then she surprised me. She stopped at my own locker. “Kou Seiya. Yep!” I heard her say. She looked at the folded piece of paper she held in her hand and opened the locker to put it in.
Was this girl a fan? This would be interesting.
I strode forward. “Is that a love letter?” I said (a little louder than necessary). She must have jumped three feet if she jumped an inch. She whirled around, and her eyes widened even more when she saw who had addressed her. I watched her face turn rather pink.
“Why don’t you give it directly to me? I get a lot of those, and so I usually don’t read them, but I’ll make an exception for a cute girl like yourself.”
Her face turned an even deeper shade of pink. “Wha..?! I – It’s not what you think!”
“Oh? It isn’t a love letter?”
“No.. well, yeah..” she shifted. “You see, I’m delivering it for a friend.”
I knew that, of course. The letter must have been written by the blue-haired girl. But that didn’t mean I couldn’t tease her a bit. I put my hand to my chin and contemplated the pigtailed girl. “Hmm, seems suspicious. You’re not a fan of mine? But I think you are. What’s your name?”
“Usagi Tsukino.”
“What are these?” I poked one of her buns. “They should have named you Odango Atama.” She looked a little bit annoyed. “I’m Kou Seiya,” I told her. “Call me Seiya.” And I gave her my most charming smile.
“Er… Nice to meet you,” she said.
I held out my hand and raised an eyebrow. “Do you want to give me your letter, now, Odango? Since you were going to put it in my locker, anyway.”
“My name isn’t ‘Odango!’,” she burst out.
“I think it fits you,” I grinned, patting one of her “odangos”. She swatted at my hand. “Don’t you think so, Odango?”
That made her more upset. “No, I don’t think so! Actually I think you’re rude!”
“Really? That’s funny. Most people tell me I’m cool. So if you don’t agree, why would you write me a love letter?”
“I didn’t write it!” One hand balled into a fist at her side.
“Whatever you say, Odango. I guess you’re not a fan.”
“I don’t know,” she replied. I admit, she was cute when she gave me that angry pout. I felt a little guilty for initially refusing to choose her. Maybe this would work out well, after all. Now I just needed to convince her to go out on a date. But I’d gotten carried away with teasing her and forgotten my initial objective.
“Usagi-chan?” The blue-haired girl burst in with a red face. “You’re not really going to –“ She stopped short when she saw me, and her face turned even redder. (I seemed to be having that effect on people today.) Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a shade of red that bright. I almost laughed. She looked horrified.
“Here, Ami-chan.” Usagi held out the letter to her. She took it and clutched it against her chest. She bowed to me, whispering “Please excuse me”, before scurrying away.
I turned back to the blonde girl called Usagi, but just as I did, the bell rang. Oh well, I’d catch her later and ask her. “Ja ne, Odango Atama, see you after school.” I waved as I turned and then strolled casually away.

As it turned out, I didn’t have to wait that long. Odango was in my class. The teacher introduced Taiki, Yaten, and I to the class. As we stood there, I noticed her eyes watching me (scrutinizing me?). I tossed her a wink, and she got all flustered, turning away and sticking her nose up in the air.
The teacher told us to find empty seats, and then class could resume. There was an empty seat behind Odango; I had noticed that immediately. She knew it was there, too, and I could see she was watching me with a little frown to see if I would choose it. I didn’t intend to disappoint. I slid in the chair behind her.
“How’s it going, Odango?” I said, and she ignored me as if she hadn’t heard. She was a funny girl. Anyone else would probably melt in their seat if I winked at them and then sat behind them. I didn’t mind it, though. Actually, I kinda admired her spunk.
Partway through class, I leaned forward and whispered, “Hey.. Odango Atama.”
She swiveled her head around with fire in her eyes. “My name is not Odango Atama!”
I grinned. “Sorry, Odango.”
“I told you…”
“I’d appreciate no talking in class, you two! Was there something you wanted to share with the rest of us, Tsukino-san?”
“No, sir.”
I leaned back in my chair guiltily. I could see Usagi’s ears turning pink. I waited ten minutes to be safe, and when the teacher had his back to us writing something on the blackboard, I leaned forward again. “Psst. Would you like to go somewhere with me tomorrow?”
“What?” she hissed, turning around with wide eyes.
“Tomorrow afternoon, Odango. Would you..”
“My name is Usagi!”
“No talking please!!” the teacher’s voice interrupted us.
When he turned to face the blackboard again, I whispered quietly, “Meet me tomorrow at eleven. At Ichi-ni-Hashi Park.” I leaned back again, and she turned her head to simply stare at me. I winked.
“The Ch’in Dynasty was established in 221 BC as the first true empire of China. It unified the six states: Chao and Yen the northeast, Wei and Ch’i in…” She turned around again to face the teacher.
Mission accomplished. ^_~
